Town Launches Internet Speed Test Challenge

Posted On: Wednesday, May 5, 2021

The Town of The Blue Mountains is asking all residents to participate in testing their home internet speed throughout the month of May. The goal is to add 2,500 more test results to the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) database on internet speeds in the Town of The Blue Mountains.

“I ask all residents to conduct a speed test of their internet service and submit results through the Town speed test website,” stated Chair of the RABIT Task Force, Deputy Mayor Rob Potter. “Data collected will be used to support applications for funding for internet projects in the Town and will help bring high-speed internet to all parts of our community.”

The Internet Speed Test Challenge is an initiative of the Town’s Rural Access to Broadband Internet Technology (“RABIT”) Taskforce in collaboration with the Canadian Internet Registration Authority. The idea for the Internet Speed Test Challenge was created following a meeting held by the RABIT Task Force with internet service provides, who expressed enthusiasm for bringing affordable, high-speed internet service to all parts of the community. Through this effort, the RABIT Task Force recognized the need to have more comprehensive data on the status of internet service for all parts of the Blue Mountains.

About the RABIT Task Force

The Town's RABIT Task Force is a Task Force of Council for matters related to the development, implementation and progress monitoring of sustainable solutions for Rural Access Broadband Internet in the Town of The Blue Mountains.
