Both seasoned curlers, and people wanting to try the sport for the first time, had an opportunity to check out the Arena as a curling facility and throw a few rocks or play a game. The festivities included mixed doubles curling demonstrations, a hit the button contest, lessons for beginners, and lots of fun family curling.
The event was the start of the BMCC’s membership drive for the 2018/2019 season. To date 70 members have signed up, but we still have a way to go to get to the minimum 150 paid members we need by June 1st to be able to commit to paying for the ice for the 2018/2019 season.
“We had great participation from the community at our kick-off event, with people of all ages participating”, stated Lloyd Luckock, Membership Chair. “The important thing now is to reach our minimum membership goal to have enough paid members to be able to make the decision to proceed.”
To help us bring curling back to the Blue Mountains please sign-up as a member, or support us as a sponsor.

During the 2018/2019 season the BMCC will offer 15 weeks of curling, Fridays and Saturdays at the Arena. Membership for the season is priced at $150. Membership entitles members participation in all of the club’s activities.
A full slate of activities is planned for the 2018/2019 season starting November 2. A great deal of ice time is devoted to encouraging the newcomer / novice to get out and participate. ie: Daily Open Draw Jitney Curling, Curling 101-Clinics, Student programs and Group events.
JITNEY is a local term used to describe an open draw where curlers sign up for a game and teams are selected randomly using a pegboard system. Fridays and Saturdays jitney play will be available to all BMCC members and their guests.
CURLING 101: For the month of November, every Saturday will feature a 1 hour introduction to Curling for beginners. This program may be extended through the season depending on demand.
PRACTICE ICE TIME: Sheet 4 will be available for 1 hour practice sessions throughout most of the weekend.
LEAGUE PLAY: League play for traditional teams and mixed doubles will be established and available on Friday and Saturday evenings in accordance with the demand.
SCHOOL AGE PROGRAM: Ice time has been set aside every Friday through the season.
COMMUNITY GROUPS: A number of 3 hour blocks of time have been set aside throughout the season to accommodate participation by community groups
